These tuned wind flutes were inspired by the work of Nicolas Bras who makes clever wind instruments from PVC pipes. The first library captured using the set of eight wind flutes I made was SD084 WIND FLUTE SPINNER using a potters wheel to spin them up to 300rpm…
But these wind pipes make beautiful soft sounds whenever they are moved, so for this library I recorded in my studio, performing swish passes the mic by hand.
First: singular swish passes x 10+ with each of eight pipes (8P)
Then, with each: double & phrased passes x 8P
Then, with each: repeating rhythmic cycles x 8P
Then, all of the above but with 2 x 4P
Then, all of the above with all 8P together
I also then blew air through each pipe with my lungs – capturing short blasts & longer phrases with each wind flute.
Then I fired up my air compressor and did the same – short blasts, phrases plus sustained bursts… and some weird randomised ones where I quickly moved the air compressor between the 8 pipes…
