Wellington earns its reputation as a windy city due to its proximity to the ‘roaring 40s’ and Cook Strait which acts as a funnel for wind… When it blows a gale, it can be a struggle to even stand up right, so with a gale Nor Wester blasting through I loaded all my recording gear on to a trolley & lugged it up Hawkins Hill… And this mini AMB library is the result!
Gale force NorWest Winds recorded gusting around a dome covered radar station, surrounded by concrete walls & a chain link fence. Two transmission aerials sitting out, exposed to the wind were also recorded, along with two sets of power wires on the access road.
Heavy gusts, with a variety of multi-voice winds make this an excellent addition to your wind resources!
Recorded 32bit 192kHz with Sennheiser MKH8040, MKH8020 and MKH8050 mics and now released 24bit 96kHz with full UCS metadata and photos.

In a gale wind it is quite a walk uphill from the Brooklyn Wind Turbine carpark, so I loaded everything on a trolley…
Weirdly, not long after I recorded it, they demolished & replaced it!!
