We started recording this ambience library back in 2010 and each time we visited New Zealands active geothermal area we would research and record new locations.
Our first aim was to capture sulphurous mud pools, ranging in activity and intensity from boiling and erupting mud pools through to individual fumaroles. Next we targetted Wairaki Geothermal Power Plant, with its endless steam pipes, and vents. Lastly while staying in Rotorua we discovered the onsen/geothermal hot pool in our hotel was fed from the depths via a spluttering, almost vocal supply of steaming hot water.
