SD062 DIRTY BASS

This library contains some serious bass sounds, which were inspired by recording IR004 Tortured Speakers: I kept noticing how some speakers trying to reproduce deep bass sounds would distort, as the IR sweep passed through them. The effect was such that I wanted the sweep to stop and explore reactive frequencies. So I began experimenting doing exactly that: generating sub bass sounds and varying pitch & modulation until first my Trace Elliot 300Watt bass amp & 15″ Renkus-Heinz bin reacted in interesting ways. Bending and modulating pitch to find resonance and effectively worldizing analog bass at the same time. I then experimented with some of the speakers from IR004L a three way bookshelf speaker and a domestic sub. I stopped when I smelt fuses about to blow.

The third set of recordings involved the Dayton BST-1 Bass Shakers that I used for the Particle Feedback library. Feeding them with analog sub bass via an old Jansen power amp, and applying their vibrations to a large stainless steel tray. Again hearing the material, stainless steel, respond provoked a wide range of modulated bass sounds.
