I picked up this key chain fob in a junk store and the tonality immediately appealed. The main fob is made from a small piece of steel plate, and with three metal rings & some chain it has an interesting metal clank to it. I instantly imagined a security guard doing their rounds, clanking as they go… or, with some reverb, a jailor walking down a corridor.
Immediately useful for characterful foley type handling and movement, I also expanded the range by attaching other objects to the fob – a small clamp, a bracket… and a horse shoe for extra clank. These sounds also have potential for augmenting soldier movement, or for use in period dramas, horse & cart movement etc…
Captured 32bit 192kHz and released multitrack 24bit 96kHz with Sanken CUX100K wider, Sennheiser MKH8040 close and MKH8050 overhead.
