This is primarily a library of bamboo cluster impacts, plus some group rattles & shakes, and scrapes.
In brief: I needed to build a bird netting cage to protect my 14 blueberry plants. So I went & bought some bird netting and found some nifty clamps which can be used with bamboo stakes to form a cage. The local hardware store had bundles of 2 metre/6 foot bamboo stakes so I bought a few bundles & carried them up to where the blueberry plants are, and dropped them on the ground… The sound of the bamboo bundle hitting the ground stopped me for a minute: such a simple form created a really complex dense bright percussive impact!!
So I went & got two more bundles of bamboo poles and did two recording sessions: first in the studio and then outside:
Impacts and hits with one bundle of about ten stakes. Then two bundles, then four. Tightly gathered, then loosened, then very loose.
Bundles hit with a stick, bundles dropped & scattered. Bundles hitting large cardboard box, and plastic wheelbarrow. I also performed some sustained rattles holding them, and some shorter phrases, and some rhythmic repeating rattles.
Have a quick listen to the Making of Video or the audio preview and you’ll instantly hear what I mean – they produce a very sharp ‘crack’ impact, very bright & cutting.. Useful for practical sound FX and for unique percussion!
