Lakes provide a unique form of water ambience; unaffected by the swell of the open sea, their waterlap scales from gentle water movement through more rhythmic waves to busy choppy textures. To capture a wide range of lakes I travelled all over the South Island of New Zealand to record this library; visiting pristine sub alpine lakes such as Lake Tekapo, Saint Bathans, Lake McGregor, Lake Alexandrina, Lake Pukaki, Lake TeAnau, Lake Coleridge, Lake Evelyn, Lake Georgina, Lake Hawea, Lake Wanaka, Glenorchy, Lake Aviemore and Lyttleton…
Recorded (and delivered) 24bit 96kHz with multiple microphones (Sennheiser MKH8040 ORTF pair, MKH70 pair and DPA 4060 spaced omni pair) these ambiences are useful in their own right, but also potentially invaluable for small details in ocean and beach situations, for 'at sea' locations, as elements in boat movement and (with some processing) convincing underwater swells and movement. Each ambience has minimum duration of three minutes, and many are over four minutes – please see contents list below…
